The Dryden Native Friendship Centre is currently accepting resumes for the position of Wasa-Nabin Program Coordinator. The purpose of the Wasa-Nabin Program is to provide support and guidance within a cultural framework for at risk youth aged 13-18.  

Schedule:

Regular full-time hours:

Summer Months (July-August) Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm, 35 hours per week. Some flexibility to meet program needs.

Winter Months (September-June) Monday – Friday 10:00am – 6pm, 35 hours per week. Some flexibility to meet program needs.

This position is a regular full-time employment opportunity and is eligible for group retirement, extended benefits, and paid time off.

Duties including but not limited to: 

  • Development and implementation of a full range of program services.

  • To ensure culturally based youth development principles and practices in programming.

  • To promote awareness and ensure access to the Wasa-Nabin Program; Urban Indigenous youth ages 13-17.

  • Conduct needs assessments for youth and to develop a plan of action.

  • To initiate and participate in case conferences as necessary to endure needs of youth are met including referrals to other in-house programs or other community service providers.

  • To co-ordinate individual and group activities (physical, social) as required to meet needs of program clients.

  • Maintenance of secure and confidential filing system and accurate Database.

  • To ensure a balance of approaches is available to meet the needs of all youth attending and participating in the program.

  • To liaise with community youth services.

  • To assist in youth development through increasing life skills, safety awareness, nutrition and healthy physical development activities, anti-violence training and youth diversion initiatives.

  • To increase cultural understanding of youth and their families.

  • To engage in one-to-one counselling and peer support.

  • To promote intergenerational activities. 

Qualifications: 

  • College Diploma or University Degree in a related field (i.e., Social Service Work, Indigenous Studies)

  • Possess a valid CPR/First Aid or willing to be certified

  • Possess a driver’s license with a good driving record – A Drivers Abstract will be required

  • An acceptable Criminal Records Check – vulnerable sector will be condition of employment

  • Shall possess 2-4 years work related experience in the social service work area, preferably in youth related work

  • Knowledge of social, cultural and recreational needs and interests of children and youth

  • Ability to work professionally, collaboratively with youth and their families as well as agency, community and agency personnel

  • Skills and experience in presenting educational workshops and facilitating groups, in particular youth

  • Excellent computer skills, written and oral communication skills

  • Knowledge of Indigenous Culture and the social reality of Indigenous youth

  • Knowledge of Friendship Centre programs and other community programs that provide services to youth

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and be capable of coordinating activities with other Friendship Centre programs

  • $23.00-$24.00 per hour

The Dryden Native Friendship Centre (DNFC) is currently accepting resumes for the position of EarlyOn Centre – Family Resource Worker – Contract Position - 3 months to 1 year but not beyond the return of the incumbent.

The Family Resource Worker will report to the Daycare Supervisor. 


Schedule:

Regular full-time hours. Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm, 35 hours per week. Some flexibility to meet program needs.


JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:


  • Cultivate authentic relationships with children, families, community, and coworkers

  • Coordinate, plan and facilitate programs for parents and children, specifically for, but not limited to, the Dryden Urban Indigenous Homeward Bound Program participants

  • Ensure that all program environments are conducive to child development outcomes

  • Ensure the EarlyOn Centre room is kept clean, and all programming materials are in good condition

  • Prepares quarterly activity reports including statistics on number of parents and children utilizing the Centre

  • Maintain statistics as it relates to the Centre and ensure submission of reports as required


 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A Two-year diploma in Early Childhood Education is preferred, lived experience may be considered equivalent

  • 1 year experience in an early years or child care program

  • Experience in program reporting

  • Previous experience with budgeting for program expenses is an asset

  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced work environment with frequent interruptions

  • Ability to work independently and as a team, with minimal supervision

  • Must have First Aid with infant CPR and WHMIS/GHS or ability to obtain

  • Criminal Reference Check, Vulnerable Sector, is a requirement of the employment offer.

  • Up to date immunization record with a 2-Step TB test or ability to obtain

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Awareness & appreciation of Indigenous culture and foods

  • Ability to speak Ojibwe or Oji-Cree is an asset

  • Drivers abstract and access to a reliable vehicle for grocery shopping required and be willing to travel on occasion for business or training



Work Conditions & Remuneration

  • Working in the EarlyOn Centre within the Daycare

  • Offsite programming within the community

  • $22.00 -$30.00 per hour based on qualifications and experience

The purpose of this position is to ensure that the healing and wellness needs of the Indigenous community are addressed by implementing the Indigenous Healing and Wellness Strategy at the local level in order to reduce family violence, promote healthy lifestyles, culture-based programming and healing.


The HWC position delivers programming which is primarily client and participant-based services to Indigenous individuals, families and children. The priority focus of programming is related to reducing family violence and to foster improvements in the health and wellbeing of Indigenous individuals, families, communities and Nations.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:


• Create case notes for clients and create a care plan for each

• Facilitate one-to-one and group sessions for a wide range of age groups

• Foster healing and positive spaces

• Foster relationships and create working relationship with other organizations as it relates to this program

• Promote Indigenous culture-based family healing

• Develop and implement healing circles, peer support groups and self-help processes to assist in community healing, anger management, positive self-image development, alternative discipline methods and positive relationships

• Collaborate with other Friendship Centre programs and staff to promote a coordinated approach to healing and wellness

• Facilitate the involvement of elders and traditional people, who have undergone their own healing and wellness journey, in the Indigenous Healing and Wellness Program

• Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possess a degree or diploma in social services, health care, or a related field. Lived experience and other relevant certifications may be considered equivalent.

• An acceptable Criminal Reference Check, Vulnerable Sector, will be a condition of the employment offer.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license with good driving records; will be required to provide Driver’s Abstract.

• Possess current First-Aid/CPR certification or be willing to be certified

• Must have excellent computer skills; Working knowledge of MS Word & data entry

• Demonstrated organizational skills and time management capabilities

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Excellent communication skills – written & oral

• Skills and experience in presenting workshops and facilitating groups

• Ability to speak Ojibwe or Oji-cree is an asset

• Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions is an asset

• Experience with Government reporting is an asset

• Excellent collaboration skills

• Experience with budgeting is an asset
