Language Revitalization Worker - 1 Year Contract

The Indigenous Language Revitalization Program (ILRP) – 1 year contract will support the development of Friendship Centre language hubs and will work toward integrating Indigenous languages into daily operations of the Friendship Centre.

Schedule:

Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm, 35 hours per week. 1 Hour unpaid lunch each day. Some flexibility to meet program needs.

 Duties and Responsibilities include but is not limited to:

  • Provide language learning opportunities for community members

  • Promote the use of language within the Centre and externally

  • Plan and execute activities and events for language development to learners of varying capabilities

  • Develop and execute lesson plans that account for diverse learning needs

  • Track statistics and submit reports on a monthly basis

  • Create purchase orders and follow all finance policies and procedures

  • Regularly provide reporting updates and maintain client files in alignment with DNFC policy and procedures;

  • Other responsibilities, as required;

 Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Ojibwe or OjiCree

  • A Bachelor of Education may be considered an asset

  • 1 year experience delivering language learning opportunities or developing lesson plans is preferred

  • Community experience that can include organizing events, holding traditional roles, and volunteering;

  • Proficiency in applicable software programs (e.g.: Microsoft Word, Outlook, etc.)

  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector check will be a requirement of the job;

  • Class G Ontario Drivers License

  • First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain

  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with emphasis on the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach;

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work independently and within a team;

  • Excellent organizational skills and excellent networking and facilitation skills;

Work Conditions & Remuneration

  • Working in a shared office environment

  • $23-25.00 per hour
